From the series Encountering Jesus

Sujo John spent a lot of his life chasing after material possessions. He moved from India to America in search of the American dream: wealth, success and fame. But his experience on Sept. 11, 2011 in the World Trade Center changed his life. He decided to start chasing the things which are in God's heart instead of his own. And God's heart is for people: people who need Jesus.

His story reminds me of a Bible verse from the New Testament: "Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever." (1 John 2:15-17).

This doesn't mean that we don't enjoy beautiful and pleasurable things that God created. But when we pursue pleasure and beauty above the One who created them, our lives become unbalanced. I know whenever I chase after things "of the world" I end up feeling empty and needy whether I get them or not. But whenever I chase after God, I am fulfilled and content.

Let's pray for each other: that we would chase after our Lord above all else, and that our desires for things of the world would fade away. I definitely need prayer to keep my focus on God. If you need prayer too, please let us know by commenting below and we will pray for you.
