Cancer. It's a devastating word, and far too many people have experienced the shock and fear that it brings. When Tamara was diagnosed, her response was a bit different that most people's: "Initially I was in shock but just in a matter of seconds a peace came over me. I remember knowing right then that no matter what happens that it's going to be okay."

Where did this peace come from? How did she know things were going to be okay? Her peace comes from her relationship with Jesus, and her faith in the Word of God. In John 16:33, Jesus said, "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."

Jesus didn't say you might have trouble in this world. He said you WILL have trouble. He did not tell us this to make us fearful or depressed, but to let us know that this world is a tough place to be. And He knows. He experienced it firsthand.

But the second part of this verse is so comforting: "Take heart! I have overcome the world." No matter what life brings, if you're a Christian you can rest in the knowledge that Jesus holds you in His hands. Not just through this life, but into eternity. Our dear Savior King, our Redeemer, will gently guide us through each moment in our lives. And when our time comes, He will usher us into heaven, to dwell with Him forever!
