From the series Encountering Jesus

I'm not sure why I thought that once I became a Christian my life would be perfect. No one told me that. But when I continued to face hardships in my new Christian life, I figured I was doing something wrong. Why was life still so difficult?

I quickly learned that all Christians have an enemy, and he is constantly working to discourage and deceive us. He has many names: the devil, Satan, the father of lies, the evil one. He wants to bring us down so we are too weary to spread the news of Jesus.

That's why the Bible tells us we must fight. "Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses." 1 Timothy 6:12.

It's a good fight, and we're on the winning team, but it's still a fight. We are not afraid of the enemy, but we must recognize that we have an enemy so we can stand against him.
